Before you starting wondering what is it, Anime is mainly referred to Animation that has been created in Japan and these Animation vary a lot from common form of Animation or cartoons that we are used to, most Anime has characteristic Japanese style that range from cutely deformed body shape to huge doe shaped eyes along with an array of facial expression such as sweatdrops, nosebleeds etc. Unlike the western predecessors this form of animation is mainly directed to mature audiences and of all age groups rather than being just for kids as with the cartoons. There are specific sub genres of anime targeted to specific group of audiences such as Shounen anime for Boys, Shoujo anime for girls there is Mecha for all you robot enthusiast then Josei, Ecchi, Yaoi etc

While some anime are for kids, the mature ones usually teaches us something or leaves a moral behind the story, like how to overcome the when faced against great odds, keep your spirits up, how to deal with a love problem etc. For those of you who are yet to see any anime so far, can start with:

Welcome to NHK: A schizophrenic and unsocial guy who is secluded from everyone, lives alone in his apartment and never goes out finds a way to change his life.

Code Geass: One single man with immense determination and iron will single handedly dominates and brings the entire world to its knees.

Samurai X: In this anime you will get in-depth idea about various historical aspects of Japan, ranging from the Swordsmanship of Japan to its feudal wars.
